Helen G. Richie, 99, of the Muncy Valley area, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Highlands Healthcare and Rehab Center, Laporte.
Born in Muncy Valley on February 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Hazel (Flick) George. She was married to Attwood L. Richie for 45 years until his death on August 21, 2017.
She was a graduate of Sonestown High School and had worked at the former Montgomery Mills and later at Tiffany's Parlor at the Lycoming Mall.
Helen was a member of Hughesville Baptist Church and enjoyed doing prison ministry for many years. She read her Bible often and kept a daily journal. She enjoyed flowers and most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren and her family.
Surviving are two sons: Alan "Herb" Barto and Harold "Hal" Barto, both of Hughesville; two daughters: Wendy J. Baxter and her husband Terry of Muncy and Shelley Thomas of Sunbury; one step-son Patrick Richie of North Carolina;15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sylvia "Dolly" Becker of Penn Valley, CA.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were two daughters: Peggy McLaughlin and Cindy Barto; four sons: Ronald, Steven, and Gary Barto and Christopher Houseknecht; a sister, Myra Boyer; four brothers: Robert, Elwood, Paul, and Harold George, Jr.; and a son-in-law, William Thomas.
Services and burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, will be held at the convenience of the family.
