Joanne Bennett, 95, passed away on October 2, 2025. She and her surviving husband, Donald Bennett, enjoyed 74 years of marriage. Joanne’s children are Donald Larry Bennett (Tony) and Julie Ehrgood (Daniel). Three surviving grandchildren are Jennifer, Weston, and Jonathan. She was predeceased by grandsons Cody and Joel. There are seven great-grandchildren.
Joanne once said “In my obituary I just want the words Ho-Hum” but her life was far from “Ho-Hum.” Joanne was an educator who brought the first computers into the Williamsport School District. She also designed a local history program to be taught in the Williamsport schools to instill community pride in the children.
Joanne had an adventurous spirit and she loved the far north. In Nova Scotia, she enjoyed the raw beauty of the land and the Scottish games. She had an admiration for men in kilts. In Churchill on the Hudson Bay, she was attracted to the polar bear, the Northern Lights, and teaching children in the Inuit school.
Joanne and Donald bought their beloved farm in 1973 and spent fifty-plus years putting their love and hard work into creating a home where their family and friends always received a warm welcome.
Joanne had fond memories of her grandparent’s farm in Herdon, where she visited as a child, helping with farmwork and playing with her cousins.
Joanne had an endless curiosity and thirst for knowledge that shined through even in her last days. She was a powerful inspiration to her family and friends. She handled hardship with grace, love, and kindness with the well-being of others foremost in her mind. Farewell to our Dear Mother!
