Melvin R. "Mel" Derhammer, Jr, 54, of Picture Rocks, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025.

Born August 29, 1970 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of Sarah (Emil) Derhammer of Back Mountain and the late Melvin R. Derhammer, Sr. On July 15, 1995 he married the former Heidi R. Hodgson and they have celebrated 29 years of marriage.

He was a 1989 graduate of West Side Career and Technology Center of Kingston and was self-employed, owning and operating R.E.M.A. Plumbing and Heating since 2011.  Earlier he had worked for over 20 years for UGI.

Mel was a member of the Green Valley Hunting Club, the Picture Rocks Fire Company, Highland Lake Manor, and the Red Knight's Motorcycle Club of Antes Fort.  He enjoyed motorcycle riding, camping, hunting, and riding his ATV.

Surviving besides his mother, Sarah of Back Mountain, and his wife Heidi Derhammer, at home, are two sons: Robert E. Derhammer and his wife Paige of Hughesville; Melvin R. Derhammer, III and his wife Abigail of Loyalsock; two daughters: Emily R. Crownover and her husband Caleb of Muncy and Amanda C. Balliet and her husband Noah of Picture Rocks; three grandchildren: Lucas and Ella Crownover and Oaklee Hodgson; two brothers: Steve Derhammer and his wife Laura, and John Derhammer, all of Back Mountain; and two sisters: Mary Jo Eckenrod of Trevorton and Theresa Derhammer of Back Mountain.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Hughesville Funeral Home and Cremation Svc, Inc., 5069 Route 220 Highway, Hughesville where a funeral service will be at 11:00 AM  Wednesday, January 22, 2025 with Pastor Rob McKenzie of Bible Baptist Church of Huntersville officiating.  Burial will be held privately at Picture Rocks Cemetery.
