Roy W. Maines, Jr., 67, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Born November 28, 1957 in Spangler, PA, he was the son of the late Roy W. Maines, Sr. and Lena (Green) Maines of Barnesboro, PA.
Roy lived a rich and varied working life beginning in the coal mines of western PA, a testament to his grit and resilience and ending as a well-known bartender at Morey’s Tavern, where his quick wit, infectious humor and warm personality entertained countless regulars and newcomers alike over the years.
Roy possessed an uncanny ability to connect to just about anyone with his gregarious, outgoing nature and soon built community wherever he found himself. He was an avid and talented pool player, enjoyed golfing, playing cards, cooking for friends and family, amusing his beloved cat, “Bella,” listening to jazz, and watching old reruns of Gunsmoke and the Andy Griffith show on TV Land. He was also a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan who bled black and gold and was known to host a lively party or two in his time.
Preceded in death with parents, brothers James and John Green, sisters Cecilia Yedlosky and Margaret Davis. Survived by sisters Marie Kerr, Dorothy Dospoy, Debbie Muhlbauer, companion Crystal Bernstein, and her son Ryan Bernstein.
Roy was a beloved and devoted companion, father figure, brother, and friend to many. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. He taught us to LIVE life to the fullest with love, laughter and genuine connection. His legacy isn’t measured in possessions, but in the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the enduring bonds that will forever be a part of us.
If by chance you never had the pleasure to meet Roy, “he’s the short guy with the tall legs…aka Big Delicious…the one you might’ve seen in the movies—he went three times a week…you know what they called him in high school—Roy.”
“Never goodbye, but so long for now Roy…kiss your mother…always be a gentleman…and no tugging on God’s robes…God Bless.”
