Sylvan L. Harriman, 95, a lifelong resident and local legend of Sonestown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born October 18, 1930 in Unityville, he was a son of the late Clayton Harriman and Clara C. (Stackhouse) Harriman Wallis, and raised with love by Hank Wallis. On September 8, 1955 he married the former Nannie M. McDonald, and together they celebrated 70 wonderful years of marriage.
Sylvan worked as a logger most of his life, and was also an Electrolux salesman for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and listening to country music. Sylvan loved to go hunting and was very found of all the times he spent with family and friends.
He was a very proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; always supporting his loved ones. Sylvan was a simple man, and loved all the time spent with family and friends, sharing stories and drinking a nice cold beer.
In addition to his wife, Nannie, he is survived by his 7 children: Sylvan "Bud" Harriman and his wife Dorna, Barry Harriman, Debra Copp, Cynthia Sones, Terry Harriman, Scott Harriman and his wife Christy, and Darren Harriman; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and Hank Wallis, Sylvan was preceded in death by two sons: Jeffrey and Steve Harriman; three brothers: Guy Harriman, Doyle, and Dwayne "Bob" Wallis; one sister: Mabel Swales; and two sons-in-law: Ted Copp and Roger Sones.
There will be a visitation held from 1 to 2 PM on Sunday, December 28, at Hughesville Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc, 5069 Route 220 Hwy, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. Thomas Brokaw, UPMC Chaplain, officiating.
