Tyler D. Morton, 33, of Hughesville, passed away at the Gatehouse on February 14, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born May 9, 1990 in Danville, he was the son of the late David R. Morton and Cindy (Reitz) Morton-Beck of Milton.
Tyler was an avid sports fan at a young age. His coaches described him as gifted, humble, and a great teammate, who had a love for athletics. In 2008, he graduated from Meadowbrook Christian School. He was a star player in multiple sports, earning the PIAA District 4 Outstanding Male Athlete Award and setting a record for the long jump. He continued his education at Susquehanna University, majoring in Secondary Education and earning a Bachelor of Science degree. While he was substitute teaching, he developed a passion for jewelry, initially going to work for his mother-in-law at J.L. Winters Jewelers as a part time sales associate and quickly advancing to store manager. Tyler especially excelled at helping newly engaged couples select and design engagement rings, and personally oversaw the creation of several thousand diamond rings as a result. Through attendance at regional and national trade shows, Tyler became a nationally known fixture in the jewelry industry, developing relationships with hundreds of other jewelers, jewelry manufacturers, and diamond dealers.
Tyler’s love for his family and friends was reciprocated by all. His kind, caring, and outgoing nature allowed him to becoming deeply integrated into the lives of many local residents, creating a great loss for the entire community. Tyler’s profound love for his wife, McKenzie permeated his every thought and action, impacting every aspect of their lives together. Theirs was a wonderful love story, but far too brief, tragically cut short by a terrible disease.
Surviving in addition to his mother, Cindy and stepfather, Kevin Beck, are his wife, McKenzie Morton of Hughesville and his son, Maximus Morton.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11AM on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Christ Wesleyan Church, 363 Stamm Road, Milton, PA 17847. A luncheon for family and close friends will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tyler’s memory can be made to Max’s college fund at Journey Bank to a checking account set up for the benefit of Tyler Morton’s family.
