Walter A. "Wally" Shaner

Walter A. "Wally" Shaner, 70, of Muncy Valley, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 20, 2020 in the emergency room of UPMC-Muncy.

Born in Muncy on August 12, 1950, he was the son of the late Walter A. and Irene E. (Sponhouse) Shaner.  On October 14, 1995 he married the former Bonnie J. Trexler and they would have celebrated 25 years of marriage next month.

He was a graduate of Hughesville High School and served with the US Coast Guard.  He was the owner and operator of Wally Shaner's Carpentry and Flooring.

Wally was passionate about raising animals on his farm in rural Muncy Valley and enjoyed golfing.

Surviving besides his wife, Bonnie Shaner, are two sisters:  Sandra Lee Preston and her husband Larry of Lakeland, FL and Lois M. Reese and her husband David of Hughesville; a brother, David A. Shaner and his wife Jeanette of Jersey Shore; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A time for family and friends to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 from 6 to 8 PM at Hughesville Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 5069 Route 220 Highway, Hughesville, a facility that he constructed last year. 

In keeping with Wally's wishes he would like everyone to wear their casual clothing. 

A graveside service with full military honors will be held Sunday at 1:30 PM at Cherry Grove Cemetery, Nordmont.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions in Wally's memory be made to Valley United Methodist Church, PO Box 185, Muncy Valley, PA 17758, or Picture Rocks Baptist Church, 50 Elm Street, Picture Rocks, PA 17737.
